Possible Solutions

Writer's picture: StudentsAgainstStyrofoamStudentsAgainstStyrofoam

Some possible solutions to the irresponsible usage and disposal of styrofoam is to impose heavy tariffs, or even flat-out bans, on the use and construction of single-use styrofoam objects. While this would discourage the use and disposal of styrofoam, it would not do anything to deal with the skyrocketing levels of styrofoam pollution from the large amount of styrofoam that is being and has already been produced. The further incorporation of styrofoam disposal and recycling facilities would help to keep styrofoam from being thrown into natural areas. If the Pacific Garbage Patch were to be dealt with, it would keep large chunks and vast stretches of styrofoam waste out of the ocean, and away from the currents that would spread it around the globe.
