The Future of Styrofoam

Writer's picture: StudentsAgainstStyrofoamStudentsAgainstStyrofoam

Styrofoam will not break down for the foreseeable future, meaning that all thrown-out styrofoam that ends up in natural areas will stay there for much longer than those who tossed it there will be alive. On average, it takes at least 500 years for styrofoam to decompose, but it can sometimes take thousands of years to decompose. As styrofoam continues to accumulate, the problems it causes only grow in frequency and impact.
